Non-profit Health Insurance, mmmmmmm

Insurance non profitEstablishing health insurance providers as non-profit entities is an interesting concept in today’s healthcare system. What would happen if the multitude of health insurance companies switched status from for profit to a non-profit status? Putting away multi-million dollar compensation packages for industry executives and replacing them with premium dividends and improved coverage for members, could it really happen?


Healthcare: Right or Privilege, another look.

rightsI have raised the question on my own blog site Healthcare Today whether healthcare itself is a privilege or a right; citizenship and immigration issues aside. After reviewing the bill of rights I was unable to determine if there was any clear mention of such related topics and I wasn’t able to find any reference. Clearly the founders had many other issues of more importance on their plates at the time. The only small mention that perhaps one could tie into healthcare was from the Declaration of Independence …that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness…;hardly a strong case for the right of healthcare for all.

Healthcare views from the Presidential Candidates. I was doing research last night on the Political views of the Presidential candidates. While I am not an advocate for a particular candidate, I did find this information resourceful for Medical and Healthcare Professionals. This link, which is provided by the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, provides a side by side comparison and quick overview of what the Presidential Candidates are planning for Healthcare Reform.
