Cardiovascular Issues of ADHD Medications
Recently there has been controversy over the use of ADHD medications, specifically in children. Side-effects of these medications include increases in blood pressure, heart rate and other potential cardiovascular risks. Patients with known cardiovascular structural abnormalities or who have family histories of cardiac events should not take stimulant drugs associated with treatment of ADHD according to the FDA.

- Study Reinforces Hormone Therapy And Breast Cancer Link
Stanford researchers have published the results of a study that reinforces the link between postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy and increased incidence of breast cancer.
According to the study results, women who take combined estrogen plus progestin hormone therapy for at least five years after menopause, have twice the annual risk of developing breast cancer. The risk of breast cancer is not associated with women who only take estrogen.

The science behind maintaining body weight is complex and treatment is usually the same as if you didn’t have the infection. The virus is active for approximately 3 months and the propensity to gain weight during that time is high.

What’s The Best Exercise For Type 2 Diabetics?
Resistance Training combined with aerobic exercise are both beneficial when added together at controlling type 2 diabetes. Four study groups were used. The exercise group combining aerobic and resistance training far outweighed the benefits of any of the other groups. HbA1C levels dropped significantly as well.

Of particular interest this week among the diverse array of medical blog topics was this question posed by Prometheus, “Is the diagnosis of autism increasing and is it a real epidemic?” The blog brought to light that while the diagnosis of autism has increased over the years, the total number of children diagnosed with mental retardation had decreased over the years. Go figure. And, that is exactly what this author did, in five simple graphs; he took a look at whether we truly do have an epidemic of autism.
