Pipeline Fumes
The other day, I was speaking to “Tom” about recruiting Healthcare Professionals more effectively. This particular person has many years of Healthcare Recruiting experience and has been a trusted friend for several years. He confided to me that while his marketing campaigns were successful, he had more “pipeline fumes” than placements.
I thought about Tom’s situation further and called back to discuss how he can be more effective Recruiter. After listening to Tom’s situation further, I offered many recommendations to help him hire more Healthcare Professionals.
1. Always Pre-Close. The moment that you have a candidate interested in your position, you immediately start thinking of how to close the deal. Look at the resume closely and pull any pertinent information that you will need. By looking at the resume and reviewing your opportunity, you should be able find at least 3 positive and negative points of interest. By preparing yourself with this information, you are in a position of promoting your strengths and eliminating the weaknesses.
2. Go Above & Beyond. Recruiting Healthcare Professionals is not easy. Healthcare Organizations are now competing locally, regionally, nationally and even internationally for the same talent. This means that you should do whatever possible to meet the unique needs of the candidate. By exceeding the expectations of the candidate you will be making more successful placements.
3. Follow up. Believe it or not, few companies follow up after they interview a qualified candidate. Healthcare Professionals are busy by nature and carry multiple responsibilities including (but not limited to) Parenting, Education, Work and more. By simply following up with the candidate, it lets them know that you are sincerely interested in bringing them on board.
After I advised Tom, he immediately saw areas of improvement. While he was generating candidates for his opportunities, he was not taking into consideration the amount of organizations that were targeting the same talent. Tom went above the call of duty and developed creative recruiting strategies that were unique for each applicant. In addition, he started following up with every candidate with traditional thank you letters and phone calls which has helped him hire more Healthcare Professionals.
