Supplement Product Recalls

Posted April 15th, 2008 by Kathy Shattler

Supplement product recallsFirst, the Alabama Department of Public Health was advised by the USDA to alert consumers regarding a product recall for Total Body Formula in the flavors of Tropical Orange and Peach Nectar. Apparently, this supplement caused significant hair loss, muscle cramps, diarrhea, joint pain and fatigue. On the foot heels of this advisory in Alabama came warnings from FDA regarding the same product sold in Florida, California, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Misssouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Virginia.

The FDA is advising consumers in all states to avoid using these products by placing them in a trash bin outside the home. One reason hypothesized for the problems encountered with this product may relate to high levels of selenium although an exact reason for the symptoms caused by the products has not been released by the FDA.

Consumers who have been taking these products and have experienced adverse reactions are, as usually the case, urged to contact their health professional. They are also urged to file a report with FDA’s Medwatch program at 1-800-FDA-1088 or online at http://www.fda.gov.

I’m an Alabama resident and had not heard of this supplement of the related health risks. Thanks for the alert. I’ll be stumbling it right now.
